British boarding schools are steeped in tradition, history and prestige.
There are a few British boarding schools in Malaysia. Some of them are overseas branches of the original campus in the United Kingdom. On the other hand, there are schools which have integrated the British boarding school ethos into their curriculum.
Here are the British boarding schools you can find in Malaysia.
Epsom College in Malaysia is located in Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan. The school was established in 2014 and is an extension of Epsom College in the United Kingdom. The British Curriculum is offered leading up to the IGCSE examinations. A Levels is offered at pre-university level. Students aged three to 11 years old enter Prep School. After that, they enter the Senior School which is both a day and boarding school. Full boarding and weekly boarding are options for students aged 11 to 18 years old.
Established in 2018, King Henry VIII College is a co-educational boarding school located in Cyberjaya, Selangor. It is the first overseas school opened by Christ College, Brecon and offers the British Curriculum. Students sit for the IGCSE and A Level examinations at secondary school and pre-university levels respectively. Each boarding house in the girls and boys block is fully staffed with Houseparents, a Resident Tutor, and other Resident Assistants.
In the late 1980s, the Negeri Sembilan royal family expressed the need to have a school modelled after the British boarding school system but adapted for Malaysian students. Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar opened in 1991 and is located in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan. The school accommodates boys and girls aged three to 18 years old. Boarding is provided to students from age 11 onwards. The International Primary Curriculum, British Curriculum, Cambridge International Curriculum, IGCSE and A Levels are offered at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar.
Marlborough College Malaysia is an independent British boarding and day school in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. Established in 2012, the school is an extension of Marlborough College in the United Kingdom. Students aged three onwards enter Preparatory School where the British Curriculum leading up to the IGCSE is offered. Sixth Form students enter Senior School where they study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
POWIIS is a modern international school combined with traditional English boarding school values. The school began operating in 2011 in Balik Pulau, Penang. Students aged 11 to 18 enter Year 7 to Year 13. The British Curriculum, Cambridge International Curriculum, IGCSE and A Levels are offered at POWIIS. In addition, POWIIS offers Edexcel, the Junior Sports Leadership Award, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Trinity College London: Speech and Drama and IELTS.
Stonyhurst Penang International School is an extension of Stonyhurst College in the United Kingdom. The school is scheduled to open in September 2020 in Bandar Tanjong Pinang, Penang. Stonyhurst Penang International School is a coeducational day and boarding school offering the International Primary Curriculum, British Curriculum, IGCSE and A Levels. The school accepts students from three to 18 years old.
