Learning is a lifetime journey, and it begins here at The International School of Kuala Lumpur.
The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), established in 1965, is the first fully accredited international school in Malaysia and home to more than 1,500 students from over 60 countries.
ISKL is a private and nonprofit, parent-governed school accredited internationally through the Council of International Schools (CIS), and in the United States through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). ISKL is also authorized through the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), becoming Malaysia’s first IB World School in 1989.
For over 50 years, ISKL has championed a holistic approach to education, building its outstanding international reputation by balancing sound tradition for academic excellence with innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
World-class Learning, World-class Facilities
To continue offering a world-class education for subsequent generations, ISKL realizes a long-term goal with a new, world-class campus in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
At ISKL, participation in a wide variety of extracurricular and student-selected activities is a vital part of our educational philosophy. Participation in extracurricular activities is a commitment on the part of each student, which impacts not only themselves, but also the school and the larger community. Students can choose from Arts, Sports and Leisure and Academic and Community activities and start as early as our Prep Senior class.
ISKL is a participating member of the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools (IASAS), International Schools Athletics Conference (ISAC), and International Schools Theater Association (ISTA).
ISKL encourage all students to participate in ISKL’s extensive range of activities in addition to their academic pursuits, recognizing that time management and balance are essential characteristics of success for all students. ISKL Varsity teams compete in IASAS. IASAS member schools run three, eight to ten week seasons in sports and activities. The season culminates in an IASAS championship tournament. These tournaments are hosted on a rotational basis among member schools.

In 2018, ISKL's two former campuses united as one in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art campus in Ampang Hilir. Located in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur’s prestigious Embassy district, the school is easily accessible from the greater city area. Set on over 25 acres of land, ISKL provides one of the most advanced learning environments in the region featuring best practice academic, arts, and athletic facilities. From world-class science laboratories, technology rich classrooms, art studios, and three libraries, the campus also encompasses flexible spaces designed to incorporate the latest in teaching and learning concepts. With extensive playing fields that include an Olympic sized track, two gymnasia, and tennis courts, the Ampang Hilir campus is equipped with superb sports facilities. The Aquatics Complex includes a 50-meter Olympic sized competition pool, a 25-meter daily activity pool, and a learn-to-swim pool. The Performing Arts Center (PAC), will showcase local and regional events that serve the needs of the broader community as well as that of ISKL. Included in this complex is a purpose-built 700 seat Performance Theatre, an Atrium Amphitheatre, and plans for further completion of a Concert Recital Hall and Black Box Theater. ISKL’s teaching spaces are customized to support student learning with centralized common areas on each floor. These common areas are supported by the latest technology and provide unique spaces for group collaboration, presentation, interdisciplinary study, or quiet reflection. Even the building itself, which has been designed to achieve the Green Building Index (GBI) Platinum rating, serves as a laboratory for the study and understanding of environmentally sustainable practices. The campus is the first in Malaysia to achieve a Platinum Level GBI status, which reflects ISKL's ethos and focus on environmental issues. The school has an active parent community and provides gathering spaces for parents and volunteers to meet and contribute to all aspects of school life. From a full service Community Coffee Shop, to parent lounges and dedicated Parent Teacher Association (PTA) spaces, the campus design supports and enriches the ISKL community.
