KUALA LUMPUR, 17 FEBRUARY 2020 – St. John’s International School (SJIS) spent last Saturday morning celebrating another bumper year of success across academic, athletic and extra-curricular endeavours.

At the school’s 8th Annual Awards Day, sponsored by Vanke Malaysia and MPH Bookstore, the visiting parents, pupils, board members and guests of honour were united in good spirits and thunderous applause, with particular plaudits reserved for exceptional performance in several examination categories, including the IGCSE. SJIS pupils secured a 49% A/A* rate in the November 2019 IGCSE exams – an improvement only bettered in the last seven years by the 2016 results – and a 100% pass rate across every subject category. Nicholas Boudville (10A*) and Tan Jia Jun (9A/1A*) were the star students among an elite category to secure at least 5A*.

“We are very proud of our exceptional academic heritage, dating back to 1904”, remarked Mr Suresh Dass (COO & Executive Principal, SJIS) in his opening speech, “and this year’s set of results continues that long tradition of scholastic success. We are immensely proud of our students and our staff for their hard work which has paid off!”

Tunku Dato’ Yaacob Khyra, Chairman of the SJIS Board of Governors, praised the “healthy, holistic and hard-working” learning environment the school has created for its pupils to thrive within: “it is a strong testament to the values and ethos of the Lasallian heritage that SJIS is still enjoying such success, year after year – and long may it continue.”

Before the awards for internal and external exam results were presented, the Guest of Honour, Puan Maznah Abu Bakar, Education Director of Kuala Lumpur, offered her congratulations. “SJIS is a prime example of a progressive international school with a proud tradition and outstanding values. Success in the IGCSE examinations opens a door to international opportunities and these students should rightly celebrate a brighter future!”

The Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide. Developed over 30 years ago, it is tried, tested and trusted by schools worldwide and is used as the high school academic assessment by top international schools around the world.

After an entertaining program of performances, the presentation closed with an oath-taking ceremony by the newly appointed SJIS Prefects.
