This May, Nilai International School (NIS) held its inaugural Career Day which focused on encouraging students to start career planning from a young age. Everyone was dressed in their desired profession. Some of the popular choices were astronaut, diving instructor, doctor, film director, football player, pilot, police investigator, musician and veterinarian.
During assembly, the science teacher Ms Wong talked about categories of profession. The six founding character categories: realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising and conventional. Students were called up on stage and interviewed for reasons they chose the profession. Higher primary students stood out and explained further on subjects that they were going to concentrate to progress in their chosen career in the future.
This exciting day left students with a wider perspective on their career planning. With the guidance of teachers they learned about themselves and how to identify their skills. Students were told to research on their career options and link the subjects taught at school with the profession. It was a fun-packed day for the whole school and career day certainly inspired NIS students to focus on their education path for their successful future.
