LIS Students Excelled in Brunei Swimming ChampionshipLabuan International School students excelled in the recent 6th Brunei Open & Masters Long Course Swimming Championship.

Tan Xue Wen (Year 10) won a gold medal in 200 metres in backstroke, three silver medals in 100 metres backstroke, 50 metres breaststroke and 100 metre breaststroke. She also won a bronze medal in 50 metres freestyle and a gold medal in team relay.

Her brother, Tan Jie Sheng (Year 9) won a silver medal in 200 metres backstroke, two bronze medals in 100 metres butterfly and backstroke, and a gold medal in team relay.

Nur Dylaila Myzara (Standard 5) also saw a bronze medal in 100 metre breaststroke, which was her first medal in a meet outside of Labuan.

On the other hand, Lee Wei Len (Form 1, SM St Anne) won five gold medals in 100 metres butterfly, 50 metre freestyle, 200 metres freestyle, 50 metres butterfly and team relay. Bryan Chin (Form 3, SM St Anthony) won a gold medal in team relay, three silver medals in 50 metres freestyle, 50 metres breaststroke, 100 metres breaststroke, and a bronze medal in 50 metres butterfly.

LIS Students Excelled in Brunei Swimming Championship

All of the students above were representing Labuan Victoria Swimming Club. Their swimming coach, Clement David Leong was pleased with the achievement as that was their first competition in Brunei.

The championship was held by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) at Aquatic Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium Sports Complex in Berakas, Brunei on 15th & 16th September.

There were 39 individual events where 97 swimmers were competing in the Open and Masters Categories, and saw a total of 493 registered entries. Seven teams were competing in the meet with six local teams from Brunei and Victoria Swimming Club from Labuan.

Victoria Swimming Club was in the 5th with 19 medals – six gold, eight silver and five bronze, after International School Brunei (ISB) Hammerheads Swimming Club (28 gold, 22 silver and 13 bronze), Jerudong Swimming Club (16 gold, four silver and four bronze), Brunei Speed Swimming Club (13 gold, six silver and two bronze) and Panaga Stingrays Swimming Club (seven gold, two silver).
