Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM) was delighted to welcome the All Blacks Sevens Rugby Team as they prepared for the upcoming Singapore Sevens Tournament 2024. The All Blacks Sevens, known as one of the most successful international rugby teams in the world, took advantage of MCM's full-sized rugby pitches and sports facilities for their training sessions on the expansive 90-acre campus from Sunday 28th April - Tuesday 30th April 2024.
In addition to their rigorous training regimen, the All Blacks Sevens generously gave some of their time to engage with the MCM community. On Sunday, pupils from Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail (SSTMI), English College, and MCM had the unique opportunity to learn from and be coached by the elite sportsmen during a special training session. The session culminated in triangular matches between the schools, showcasing the skills the pupils had learnt from the All Blacks Sevens team.
Throughout the three day visit, pupils from both the Prep and Senior School had opportunities to observe the All Blacks in action and interact with the players. MCM's Sports Scholars were privileged to attend a talk delivered by the All Blacks Performance Analyst, Tom Martin about ‘Living a high performance lifestyle’ while Head Coach Tomasi Cama and Assistant Coach Euan Mackintosh shared their experiences to a group of MCM staff on leadership followed by a Q&A. The All Blacks also made good use of the College's fitness suite, showcasing their remarkable power, hard work and determination for the MCM Strength and Conditioning coaches to observe.
Director of Sport at MCM, Mr Todd Skevington said, “It’s been incredible to be able to host a world-class rugby team of such high calibre here at Marlborough College Malaysia and a fantastic opportunity for both our pupils and the wider community to engage with professional players. Watching the team train on our pitches over the three days has been inspiring and will encourage all our students to engage in sports.”
