30 students from Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (WMSKL) embarked on an exhilarating eight-day study tour to Melbourne, diving into a world of academic possibilities and cultural experiences. This journey was not just about visiting the tertiary educational institutions; but also, a deep dive into what their future could hold, exploring renowned institutions like La Trobe University, Monash College, Monash University, Deakin University, Swinburne University, RMIT University, and the University of Melbourne.
During their visits, students were engaged in hands-on activities that brought their potential academic journeys to life. Whether it was the thrill of campus hunts, the cutting-edge AI+MR workshops, or the creative sparks ignited in art and design sessions, every moment was a discovery. A particularly inspiring dialogue with an expert at the University of Melbourne left a lasting impression, motivating them to reach new heights.
The tour also offered a glimpse into the world of sports and finance, with visits to state-of-the-art sports facilities at Deakin University and La Trobe University, where students were awed by the opportunities for athletic growth. At RMIT University, they stepped into the shoes of traders during a real-world simulation workshop led by Mr. Tim Pfitzner, Senior Lecturer in Finance. This hands-on session demystified the financial markets, making complex economic concepts come alive.
Other than academics, students immersed themselves in Melbourne's vibrant culture. They wandered through the artistic halls of the National Gallery of Victoria, explored the literary treasures of the State Library, bargained at the lively Queen Victoria Market, and marveled at the panoramic views from the 297-meter-high Eureka Tower.
The adventure did not stop in the city. A two-hour journey took them to Phillip Island, where they indulged in sweet treats at Panny’s Chocolate Factory and experienced the magic of watching little penguins return from the sea to the shore—a breathtaking sight, amid winter's rain and wind. The iconic Brighton Beach, with its colorful bathing boxes, added yet another splash of culture to their already vibrant journey.
This study tour was much more than an educational trip—it was a fusion of learning, culture, and unforgettable experiences. The combination of academic exploration, cultural immersion, and thrilling activities left the students inspired and eager to chase their future academic and career dreams.
