This May, Nilai International School (NIS) held its annual Book Day which focused on encouraging reading through stimulating learning opportunities. In conjunction with the World Book Day, NIS students celebrated by dressing up as their favourite book character. Popular character choices were James Bond, Batman, Harry Potter, Nancy Drew and Princess Elsa. World Book Day, a well-known yearly event organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright, was first celebrated on 23 April 1995. It is a day to celebrate authors, illustrators, books and, most importantly, reading.
To demonstrate their favourite character, each year group did a paraded around the hall during assembly. The exciting day left students with wider perspective on characters on books they’ve read. It was a fun packed day for the whole school and World Book Day has certainly encouraged a love of reading among its students.
