Recently, Beaconhouse International Early Years School (BNEY) U-Thant Ampang hosted an engaging parental involvement programme that left a lasting impact on our young learners and teachers. A dedicated parent led the session centred around the crucial topics of 'Consumption and Upcycling', sparking meaningful conversations and inspiring actionable change within the school community.
The programme began with a warm introduction from the parent speaker, Mr Afif, followed by an elaboration on the concept of upcycling. He used an engaging example of a plant-in-a-bottle to illustrate the transformative potential of reusing everyday items. Through practical demonstrations and insightful discussion, he underscored the benefits of upcycling in reducing waste and preserving our planet's resources.
Transitioning seamlessly into the theme of consumption, Mr Afif encouraged students and teachers to reflect on their daily habits and their impact on the environment. Drawing attention to the finite nature of our planet, he emphasised the urgent need to minimise waste through mindful practices such as turning off the tap while brushing teeth. By fostering a sense of responsibility towards sustainable living, he empowered the audience to make conscious choices that contribute to a healthier, more eco-friendly world.
The session culminated with a powerful reminder of the three R's:
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Encouraging everyone to embrace these principles in their daily lives, Mr Afif inspired a collective commitment to environmental governance and positive change. Throughout the programme, the children displayed boundless enthusiasm, eagerly sharing their thoughts and absorbing the valuable lessons imparted by the parent speaker.
The parental involvement programme at BNEY U-Thant Ampang served as a shining example of the transformative power of community engagement and collaboration. Through meaningful dialogue and hands-on learning experiences, students and teachers were empowered to become agents of change and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
