Sri Utama Schools’ initiative to increase involvement in sport saw the hosting of the inaugural ‘Under 15 5’Side Football Tournament’. Six teams participated in the tournament representing Fairview International School, Mutiara International School, ELC International School Sungei Buloh, and Sri Utama Schools.

Upon arrival of the participating teams, Sri Utama Teacher and Football Coach Mr. Samuel Postlethwaite outlined the rules and regulations for the tournament in a pre-game briefing. All representative team coaches collaboratively determined the team groupings and order of play for the day.

The tournament briefing was followed by an inspiring speech by Sri Utama School Principal Mr. Neil Creek, who welcomed all teams, parents, and students to the tournament. Mr. Creek also outlined the schools intention to play host to interschool competitions on a regular basis throughout the remainder of the current year and in years to come.

Divided in to two football pitches, the Sri Utama School field accommodated the group stages of games being played simultaneously; Group A and Group B. The third place playoff, represented by the Second Place teams from Group A and Group B were Sri Utama School A Team and Sri Utama School B Team. …and then for the Final! The battle for First and Second Place, was fought by Mutiara International School and Fairview A Team.

Sri Utama Schools played host to students and parents, who supported and cheered on their teams from the sidelines. While representatives of the Sri Utama School Cheer Squad, cheered on both Sri Utama School Teams during their matches against the other schools. Food and drinks were provided by Sri Utama Schools’ canteen to ensure that all athletes remained well hydrated and energised.

The Award Ceremony was held where Medals were presented for First, Second, and Third place teams, and Tournament trophies were presented to the Goalie of the Tournament, and Player of the Tournament. Teams were commended for their participation, and for demonstrating sportsmanship towards their opposing teams and tournament referees.
