Year(s) and Subject(s) Taught

Experience in teaching ELC to Year 6. Currently the Deputy Head of Junior School.

How long have you been teaching?

17 years.

Why did you become a teacher? Why did you choose teaching as a profession?

Growing up, I loved all subjects from Physical Education to Chemistry. Teaching was an exciting prospect for me as it allowed me to embrace all learning areas. During my Year 10 Work Experience placements I spent a week teaching 5 year-olds; I was immediately hooked!

Tell us about your own education journey.

I spent four years studying a Bachelor Arts/Bachelor Teaching degree at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne.

What is the most memorable moment in your teaching career so far?

There are too many to mention! Memorable moments occur on a daily basis in teaching, it is such a rewarding career. Having past learners invite me to their university graduation is pretty special as is the joy of seeing learners reach their own personal goals.

What do you like most about teaching?

Being part of the learning journey! It is never dull, I learn new things all of the time and no two days are ever the same.

What is the best thing about teaching at your school?

We have the most incredible School Community. Our staff are exceptional and our parents are cheerful, welcoming and go above and beyond to support one another. Our learners are inquisitive, passionate and always act with integrity.

Who or what inspires you?

As a Visible Learning school, I would have to say Professor John Hattie is up there in terms of inspiration. His research allows us to focus on what has the greatest impact on student learning. Our Visible Learning Coaches at AISM: Evelyn Ralph and Anna Wood, also inspire me. They assist all of our staff with Action Impact Cycles, enhancing our impact on student learning through the application of the principles of Visible Learning.

What is the one thing you wish all students would do?

Love learning!
