The Inaugural PISF Poetry Slam 2018!

The first ever PISF Poetry Slam 2018 was held in conjunction with the 11th Private & International School Fair in Kuala Lumpur on 23 & 24 June 2018 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.

The competition for Category A (9 - 11 years old) was held on 23 June and Category B (12 - 14 years old) on 24 June.

Students aged 9 to 14 from private and national schools performed poems they have written themselves conveying the theme, 'Reimagining Education'.

The PISF Poetry Slam 2018 received entries from 38 private and national schools all over Malaysia.

Category A Participants

The shortlisted private school students were from Beaconhouse International School Sri Inai, HELP International School, Idrissi International School, Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar, St. John's International School, St. Joseph's Institution International School Malaysia, Rafflesia Private & International School, Taylor's International School and UCSI International School.

Category B Participants

Students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Petaling, Sekolah Kebangsaan Assunta Satu and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Yoke Nam were also shortlisted for the Poetry Slam.

They competed against one another to win attractive cash prizes worth up to RM1,500!

The competition was judged by Ms Emily Thomas, drama and speech educator at Poetry Cafe KL; Mr Jamal Raslan, an established spoken word poet in Kuala Lumpur; and Mr Reuben Chan, Marketing Manager at Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL).

The judges commended the participants for being so brave and confident and were impressed by all their performances.

Category A Winners

Winner: Phranayashri Jayabalan (Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar)

1st Runner-up: Pietta Willow Watley (Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar)

2nd Runner-up: Kyeisha Nair (Sekolah Kebangsaan Assunta Satu)

Category B Winners
