Discover the Benefits of an Australian Primary & Secondary Education in Malaysia

Parents who are interested to better understand international education can join Australian International School Malaysia’s (AISM) Open Week from 9 to 13 June between 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. The school will be organizing a series of talks during the week, delivered by its experienced Australian teachers along with other interactive activities such as storytelling, science trial classes, classroom exhibitions, student performances and school tour which would benefit both parents and children.

One of the talks organised during the event titled, “IB, A-level or the Australian Higher School Certificate (HSC)?” which will be delivered by the school’s Careers and Pathway Planning Advisor, Christopher Broadbent, will provide a comparison of the three popular international curricula in Malaysia and highlight the distinctive qualities of each curriculum. Broadbent, a Middle and Senior School teacher at AISM, is a British graduate and experienced in teaching a variety of different curricula.
“Parents often make a decision about the right school based on what they can visually see (the facilities, the teachers, the environment, etc.) and not necessarily driven by understanding the curriculum and qualifications offered,” says Broadbent.
Broadbent also dismisses the belief that students who would like to gain entry into a university in a particular country needs to choose a school that teaches the curriculum of that country. “That is simply not the case. Students from AISM have gained entry into top universities in the United Kingdom, USA, Europe, Australia and many other parts of the world and thus, we would like to show parents how we compare to other curriculums and how our teaching and learning is different,” he adds.
For parents with children in the early years, the Head of the Early Learning Center, Kerry Brown will speak about the teaching and learning approach adopted at AISM for this age group. Kerry Brown, is a distinguished children’s author whose latest book, “All My Kisses” has just been launched in Australia.
“Learning needs to be both meaningful and fun! For this reason, the Early Learning Centre at AISM uses a combination of the Australian Early Years Learning Framework (AEYLF) and the Reggio Emilia philosophy to ensure that children are actively involved in their own learning journeys. Play based explorations ensure that children are able to make real life connections with their learning,” says Kerry.
She explains that building strong partnerships between parents and schools are also important in developing inquisitive, life-long learners. “Attending the Open Week is a great way to begin your child’s educational journey, as it is where you will develop your own understanding of how and what your child will learn,” she adds.
The Open Week at the Australian International School is the perfect opportunity for parents and family members to also experience life at AISM and to get to know more about an Australian education.
Prospective parents will also be able to meet and listen to presentations delivered by the Principal and Heads of School to learn more about the school’s philosophies and key learning areas. While parents attend the talks, younger children will be treated to a storytelling session and older children may opt to join a science trial class.

The event also allows parents and family members to see classes and teachers in action during an interactive school tour. In this school tour, parents will be allowed to enter designated classrooms, explore student’s work as well as speak to class teachers and students about their learning.
The tour will demonstrate the 21st century learning practiced at AISM, in modern and open-concept classrooms and flexible learning spaces designed to facilitate learning beyond the classroom walls. Parents will also visit AISM’s performing arts centre with purpose designed rooms for dance, drama and music, an amazing library and even a black box theatre.
