Back to School with Palestinian Children: A Beacon of Hope at Spectrum International School

On March 4, 2025, Spectrum International School proudly welcomed 66 Palestinian children and teenagers into our learning community through the Back to School with Palestinian Children initiative. This heartfelt programme, spearheaded by the school in collaboration with the Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), and the Malaysian Humanitarian Aid and Relief (MAHARI), aims to provide quality education and essential school supplies for displaced children seeking refuge in Malaysia.
The initiative was graced by the esteemed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) , YB Senator Dato' Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Na'im bin Haji Mokhtar, who commended the school’s commitment to safeguarding the educational rights of these young learners. Understanding the immense challenges they have faced due to conflict in their homeland, Spectrum International School has taken a bold step in waiving tuition fees amounting to approximately RM400,000 and ensuring that each child is equipped with the necessary school materials.
A Commitment to Education and Humanity
Education is the foundation of a brighter future, and at Spectrum International School, we believe that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves access to quality learning opportunities. Minister Na’im Mokhtar reaffirmed this vision, stating:
“We want to ensure that these children, who arrived in our country without access to education, receive quality learning opportunities. As a nation that upholds universal values of kindness and solidarity, Malaysia firmly believes that education is the key to transformation and a better future.”
With this initiative, our school is not only opening its doors but also opening hearts, demonstrating that education can be a powerful tool in restoring hope and dignity to those in need.
A New Chapter for the Students
These 66 Palestinian children and teenagers arrived in Malaysia on August 16, 2024, primarily to receive medical treatment. Currently residing at a MAIWP hostel in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, they now have a renewed sense of purpose and belonging through their integration into the Spectrum International School community. Our dedicated educators and staff have worked tirelessly to create a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment tailored to meet their educational and emotional needs.
Fostering Global Citizenship and Compassion
This initiative aligns with our school’s mission of nurturing future leaders with a strong sense of empathy, global awareness, and social responsibility. By embracing our new students, we are fostering a culture of compassion and unity, reinforcing the belief that education transcends borders and is a universal right for all.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), MAIWP, JAKIM, and all partners involved in making this initiative a reality. Spectrum International School remains steadfast in its dedication to transforming lives through education, and we look forward to seeing these young learners flourish academically, socially, and personally.
Together, we are building a future where every child has the opportunity to dream, learn, and succeed.
