IGB International School (IGBIS) is offering scholarships for the August 2023 intake. This offer is open to students who are enrolling for Middle Years Programme (MYP): Grades 6 to Grade 10 and Diploma Programme (DP): Grade 11 also known as the pre-university programmes. The intake of students at IGBIS is now open for application.

IGB International School (IGBIS) is the IB World School and the only school in Malaysia offering all four programmes in the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP). The IB programmes are designed to develop well-rounded individuals who can respond to today’s challenges with optimism and an open mind. All four programmes provide a solid and consistent framework as well as the flexibility to tailor students’ education according to their culture and context. Each of the IB programmes is also committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile, which describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is the secondary school programme offered that focuses on building a solid academic foundation. In the MYP, it develops students’ confidence in managing their own learning and making connections between their learning in the classroom and the real world. It is a five-year programme that prepares students who complete the MYP to be well prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP). The curriculum framework of MYP comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents.

As for The Diploma Programme (DP), it is a pre-university that offers a future-ready programme that builds students’ inquiring mindsets, fosters their desire to learn, and prepares them to excel at their careers and lead meaningful lives. Research suggests that there are many benefits to choosing the Diploma Programme (DP). The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge as well as students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

According to the research by the UK Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) published in 2016, it was found that IB students have a 57% greater likelihood of attending one of the top 20 UK universities than students who study A-Levels. IB students also have a larger probability of achieving both a first and second-class degree compared to their A-Level peers with, 23% of IB students achieving a first-class degree compared to 19% of A-Level students. Besides, according to a study in 2013, 72% of students taking the DP in China attend one of the world’s top 500 universities.

In IGBIS, our Diploma Programme (DP) has shown great success in performing better than the previous years and above the world average, year after year from 2016 to 2022. From the latest 2022 result, IGBIS DP students scored an average of 40 points out of 45 points against the world average of 32, which was the best 2022 DP result in Malaysia so far based on the available published DP results from different school websites.

"IGBIS is not only looking for applicants with capable academic performance, but we are also interested in finding students who have passion and experience in areas outside the classroom in the areas of Inclusion, Innovation, International Mindedness, Empowerment, Leadership, Service, Well-being, the Arts, Sports and/or Sustainability."

This is aligned with the IGB International School’s Five Pillars: Innovation, Inclusion, International-mindedness, Well-being and Empowerment. The five pillars are well implicitly and explicitly alive throughout the entire school’s programmes and can be seen through the ethos of the school, our admissions policy, the curriculum, the timetable, the after-school activity programmes and more.

Since 2014, IGBIS has embraced the IB framework because of its alignment with our educational philosophy. We believe that the goal of education is to empower young people to be curious, open-minded and caring so that they can use their knowledge and critical thinking skills to respond to complex local and global challenges. From our spacious and well-equipped Early Years classrooms to our 534-seat auditorium and beyond, students at IGBIS have access to a wealth of facilities while being supported by a faculty of internationally-trained and experienced teachers dedicated to making a difference in the lives of young people. The result is that IGBIS students benefit from a uniquely supportive, intercultural learning experience that nurtures creativity, innovation, and inclusivity while challenging students to excel both academically and personally.

These same values – supported by the IB framework and often viewed through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – underpin our inclusive learning community, curriculum, co-curriculum and after-school programmes. As a result, IGBIS graduates go out into the world as principled, lifelong learners ready to create positive change for their families, friends, communities, and beyond. At IGBIS, we believe that our focus on personal growth and impact also enriches and enhances academic performance. In fact, According to research, IB students are also more likely to complete an undergraduate degree and pursue graduate work than their peers.
