Next Generation Science Unit; Ecosystems: New Plants
Plants change as they grow and develop.
New plants develop in various ways from mature plants.
Raffles American School's (RAS) Grade 2 is focusing on selected Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and Literacy as they work to acquire understanding of one of the Core Ideas in the Next Generation Science Standards; Life Science. The practice is performance in investigations. The concept is Ecosystems; Interactions, Dynamics and Energy. Students have planned, and are conducting, an investigation to determine if plants need sunlight and water to grow. Students will represent and interpret their data graphically following the measurement and data standard. In writing workshop, students will engage in research on the selected topic and gather relevant information. They will present their findings in writing. Students will also create an illustration, drawing or other visual display to clarify the ideas they present. Throughout the unit students will be gaining academic content and vocabulary as well as demonstrating their achievement in acquiring the RAS Learning Outcomes of Problem Solving/Thinking, Communication, Organizational/Research and Character/Interpersonal Skills.
