Colorful saris and stately sherwanis dance across the garden. The smell of dal makhani wafts from the kitchen. Across the way, we hear children practicing Indian drumming.
You might believe for a moment that you are on an Indian estate, but not this time. Instead, it’s the EtonHouse Malaysia annual Deepavali celebrations, held this year on November 6th. Students and faculty wore Indian dress, and enjoyed an Indian lunch and snacks. Throughout the day, students engaged in a wide range of activities: decorating rangolis, cooking chapati, painting clay oil lamps, making garlands, making henna decorations, playing Indian drums and learning an Indian dance. Parents collaborated with the school to arrange all these activities and the excellent food.
EtonHouse Malaysia feels that celebrating the various religious, cultural and national festivals highlights international mindedness and respect for local culture, values that EHM holds at its core. All the school’s students, from Early Years through Primary, learn to recognize that what makes us different can also bring us together.
