Raffles American School Announces the Opening of a Four and Five Year-Old Program

Raffles American School (RAS) is preparing to welcome 4 and 5 year olds to the Anjung Campus beginning August 18, 2014.  Students who are 4 years or 5 years on or before September 1, 2014 are welcomed to apply.  The 4 and 5 year-old program will be instructed by RAS faculty member, Ms. May Lim.  Ms. May is a graduate of Mount Royal University in Alberta Canada.

The curriculum focuses on five learning domains as defined by New York State Early Years Foundations.

  • Domain 1 – Approaches to Learning How children become involved in learning and acquiring knowledge
  • Domain 2 – Physical Development and HealthChildren’s physical health and ability to engage in daily activities
  • Domain 3 -  Social and Emotional Development The emotional competence and ability to form positive relationships that give meaning to children’s experiences in the home, school, and larger community.
  • Domain 4 – Communication, Language, and Literacy How children understand, create and communicate meaning. This domain directly reflects the content competencies standards of RAS in Language Arts.
  • Domain 5 – Cognition and Knowledge of the World What children need to know and understand about their world and how to apply what they know.  This domain directly reflects the content competencies standards of RAS in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual Art, and Music.

The Five Learning Domains are delivered through the Raffles American School Learning Outcome Approach of Problem Solving/Thinking, Communication, Organizational/Research, and Character/Interpersonal Skills.
