Raffles American School Co Curricular Program for Semester 2 of the 2014-15 School Year boasts the largest, most diverse set of opportunities for students yet!
As RAS continues to grow in enrollment and faculty numbers, we have been able to offer more co curricular activities in more interest areas. Our current Co Curricular Coordinator has collaborated with our faculty to offer 25 activities in 4 major interest areas., elementary through high school. Some activities take all comers, while others require an audition, or placement, for level of skill. However, there is something for everyone in the areas of Language and Writing, Sports, Performing Arts, and Science and Technology.
Language and Writing offers Newsletter, Yearbook, Audio Books and Spanish.
Sports include intramural, jump rope, basketball, soccer, and fitness.
Performing Arts range from music composition, band, vocal technique, and musical theater to aerial skills, dance technique and tap dance.
The interest area of Science and Technology provides opportunities in Lego Robotics, iMovie, Stop Motion, Computer Coding and Mars Colony.
RAS believes in the development of the whole child. A strong, varied co curriclar program compliments the academic offerings of the school. The RAS Learner Outcomes of Problem Solving and Thinking, Communication, Organization/Research, and Character/Interpersonal Skills are reinforced and acquired after school hours through these co curricular offerings. Various activities require pre-requisite skill for higher placement. This allows students an entry level into dance, for example, as well as an advanced level open to students who can demonstrate entry skills so that students may progress to mastery. Most activities run for the full semester allowing students the opportunity to create, practice, and perform, or present, their learning at the end of semester Co Curricular Showcase.
As RAS continues the countdown to our purpose built facility, our innovative teachers and students have risen to the challenge of creating and administering a co curricular program which is accessible to each student and provides opportunities for students to pursue and become proficient in their passions.
