Raffles American School (RAS) is pleased to announce two additional leaders at the helm for the opening of our fourth school year on August 10, 2015.  Dr. Rob Mockrish, RAS Superintendent, and Mrs. Kerstin Mockrish, RAS Admissions Director/Registrar, would like to welcome two founding faculty members to the positions of Elementary School Principal and Middle School/High School Assistant Principal.  Please join us in welcoming Mr. Jonathan and Ms. Maldonado to their new roles.  Their current teaching positions have been filled with new hires from Canada.  Please see the school’s website for the biographical details of new faculty hires.

 

Ms. Maldonado, Dr. Rob – Superintendent, Mr. Jonathan

 

Jonathan Condo Preschool/Elementary School Principal (Prekindergarten to Grade 4)

Jonathan is a member of the RAS founding faculty group and was instrumental in leading the efforts of RAS to achieve WASC accreditation. Jonathan, an experienced international educator for over 11 years, holds a Certificate in International School Leadership from the Principals' Training Center for International School Leadership (PTC), as well as a Masters of Education in International Teaching. At Escuela Campo Alegre in Venezuela and the American School of Guatemala, Jonathan was an elementary teacher classroom teacher for over eight years. Joining RAS in the founding stage, Jonathan filled the mathematics teaching position for secondary school, earning a Math Specialist in International Schools Certification (K-8) from the US Department of Overseas Schools. Throughout his career he has facilitated curriculum alignment, coached teachers, and developed authentic assessments across subject areas and grades. Jonathan believes in teaching for understanding, creating opportunities for meaningful learning and differentiating instruction to boost student performance. Jonathan understands the importance of education in and outside of the classroom. As a result, he has ample experience leading academic and co curricular activities at RAS. Jonathan brings his intimate knowledge of RAS’s growth and development to the newly designated position of PreSchool/Elementary School Principal.

 

Aracelis Maldonado MS/HS Assistant Principal  (Grades 5 - 12) HS Social Studies

Aracelis is a member of the RAS founding faculty. She holds a Masters of Education in International Teaching, an ECIS International Teaching Certificate and is currently working on an Educational Leadership Doctoral degree. She has been an international educator for six years and has taught middle school and high school language arts and social studies. During her time at RAS, Aracelis has led and coached teachers in curricular alignment, as well as reporting and assessing. She has taken a leadership role in the development of the RAS Progress Report process. She currently teaches Grade 6, 7 and 8 Social Studies, as well as Grade 9 and 10 World History at RAS. Next year, Aracelis will be part of the group of high school teachers that will spearhead the Advanced Placement (AP) program. Originally a Political Science major, Aracelis worked for the United Nations as well as other diplomatic and international organizations before becoming a teacher. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. Aracelis brings her intimate knowledge of RAS’s growth and development to the newly designated position of MS/HS Assistant Principal.
