Sunway International School Wins the Malaysian International History Bee and Bowl Competition 2014

Untitled_8Two teams from Sunway International School (SIS) proudly brought home the championship and placed as first runner up, beating other Malaysian high schools in the History Bee and Bowl Competition at Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar in Negeri Sembilan on 2nd March 2014.

Cheh Soen Meng, James Tan Sheng Yi, Pavithran Devananthan and Gan Zhe Jing from Team B won first place. Chan Zhu Hans, Ong Shin Qi, Aisling Chia Khim Ching, Estelle Siow Zhi Qian, Lee Ji-Timm and Yap Chun Min from Team A won second place. Both Junior Varsity History Bowl teams fought their way to the finals by demonstrating an impressively high level of knowledge on world history throughout the intense competition. The grade 10 students have therefore qualified for the Asian International Championship hosted on 13-15 June at Sha Tin College, Hong Kong this year.

Chan Zhu Hans came in 4th place in the Junior Varsity History Bee division. He therefore, along with Cheh Soen Meng and James Tan Sheng Yi will be representing SIS on the international stage for the individual division.

This was the first time for SIS to participate in any kind of International History competition. The outstanding achievements exceeded the teachers’ expectations, “We are indeed very proud of our SIS students,” said Cheng Mien Wee, Executive Director of Sunway International School and Director of Pre-University Studies of Sunway Education Group. SIS wishes their students every success in the international tournament and will continue to nurture talents like theirs as well as make the school and country proud.
