In Southeast Asia, the name Taylor’s Education Group (TEG) is synonymous with excellence in education. With a rich history stretching back over 60 years, the Group has firmly established itself as the leading education provider in the region. Comprising Taylor’s University, Taylor’s College and Taylor’s Schools, TEG delivers world-class education from early years to the tertiary level. The history of Taylor’s Schools – which consists of some of the largest and most highly respected international schools in Malaysia and Singapore – began all the way back in 1951 with the establishment of Garden International School, which at the time had only 33 students and two teachers. TEG’s portfolio of international schools has expanded immensely over the years, and now encompasses six institutions – Garden International School (GIS); Australian International School Malaysia (AISM); Taylor’s International School, Kuala Lumpur; Taylor’s International School, Puchong; Nexus International School, Putrajaya (NISP) and Nexus International School, Singapore (NISS) – which cater to the educational needs of more than 5,700 students from over 60 countries. “All of our international schools possess the TEG trademark of delivering educational excellence, and all aim to be the ‘schools of choice’ in their respective segment with each having its own unique character and values,” said BK Gan, President of Taylor’s Schools.
GARDEN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Garden International School (GIS) is one of the premier international schools in Asia, offering a British-style education from early years to A Levels to over 2,000 expatriate and Malaysian students. Over the years, GIS has racked up an amazing track record of academic excellence, consistently producing students who go on to attend top universities around the globe. In 2013, for example, the school had a 99.7% pass rate for A and AS Levels, 96% IGCSE passes (A* to C), and 69% achieving A* and A scores, and 100% of graduating students were offered a place at either their first or second choice university.
Not satisfied to rest on its laurels, GIS has invested significantly in a complete makeover and modernization of its facilities, and all current renovations are to be completed by early 2015. GIS has also invested in the professional development of its staff, and aims to become a hub for the training and professional development of teachers across Asia. “The professional development of our teachers is central to life at GIS, by encouraging our teachers to constantly advance their skills; we are in turn enabling our students to achieve their full potential,” added Mr Gan.
AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL MALAYSIA
Established in 2000, the Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) is the first and only school in Malaysia offering an Australian Curriculum, delivered by highly-qualified Australian teachers. Located on a 7.5-acre campus at the Mines Resort City in Kuala Lumpur, AISM provides a rigorous and rewarding educational experience to over 600 students from preschool through Year 12. AISM graduates all earn the Higher School Certificate (HSC), a passport to top universities around the globe. AISM recently achieved full accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS), joining a select group of 400 other schools globally that have earned this official recognition. In February 2014, AISM opened its brand new Junior School complex, which provides students with a state-of-the-art learning environment and enables them to collaborate, be more creative, and develop high-order thinking skills. The school has not only improved its classroom facilities, but also invested in a performing arts center with drama, dance, and music rooms as well as a black box theater. “The new Junior School complex has changed the way students at AISM learn. Today, students from different classes have greater mobility and ability to work together in a wide common space developing teamwork and social skills. Teachers have been able to use the new facilities to help implement the flexible approach of the Australian curriculum,” Mr Gan commented.
NEXUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Renowned for their emphasis on personalized learning and the seamless integration of ICT into the curriculum and classroom environments, Nexus International Schools in Putrajaya and Singapore offer the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), IGCSE and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP). Nexus International School, Putrajaya provides boarding for boys and girls in Years 6 to 13 with the aim of exposing them to a wealth of knowledge and experiences and giving them an opportunity to form enduring friendships in a caring, well-equipped and secure environment.
Nexus International School, Putrajaya recently made headlines when it was awarded “Mastering” status by the IPC, joining only a handful of other schools in the world that have attained this peak level of accreditation. “Over two years the leadership team, teachers, parents and learners in the school worked very hard to review its use of the IPC for learning and then to accelerate to the highest level of implementation. Now that the school is accredited, it is quickly becoming a beacon school for others in the area that are hoping to implement the IPC at a high level,” Mr Gan said.
TAYLOR’S INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Taylor’s International School in Kuala Lumpur is the first campus of a chain of exceptional “neighborhood international curriculum schools”. The second Taylor’s International School campus will open its doors in Puchong in January 2015, and there are plans in place to establish branches in every major city in Malaysia. All of the Taylor’s International Schools will follow the same roadmap for educational excellence by delivering a first-class British curriculum education for students aged 4 to 16, providing a strong foundation in the languages (English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia), ensuring character development grounded in the best of Western and Eastern values, and creating a holistic, student-centered learning environment. Students at Taylor’s International School have the opportunity to remain in the Taylor’s Education Group system all the way to the post-graduate level by pursuing their higher education at Taylor’s College and Taylor’s University. Although all of the institutions under Taylor’s Schools have unique characteristics, strengths and values, they are all united in their shared vision to deliver exceptional education and to “educate the youth of the world to take their productive place as leaders in the global community.” For more information, visit school.taylors.edu.my
