Inside the Schools

Behind every bold idea is a great teacher who made space for it. At GIS, we champion creativity as a foundation for all learning and life.

At Garden International School, we believe creativity isn’t just for artists — it’s a critical skill for the future. Our teachers play a pivotal role in nurturing imagination and expression, guiding students to discover their voice, build confidence, and explore real-world possibilities.

Students recently connected with guest speakers who embody creative excellence: Cove Overley (production designer), Ben Chee (graphic designer), Marko Randelovic (architect), and Nabila Nasir (furniture designer). These sessions offered powerful glimpses into how creativity drives professional success.

Adding to this was a hands-on masterclass with acclaimed Malaysian artist Jalaini Abu Hassan, known for his evocative, socially reflective works. Using bitumen and charcoal, Jai showed students how art becomes personal and powerful — reminding them, “Before you can break the rules, you have to first learn the rules.”

It’s through opportunities like these that GIS students grow not only as artists, but as creative thinkers across all domains. Our educators make it possible — building the foundation for a future where creativity is not a subject, but a strength that lasts a lifetime.
