ECiM's Achievements @ The 17th International Annual Essay Competition for Overseas Chinese Youth

The Mandarin Department at Epsom College in Malaysia has done it again! Building on their successful first entry into the competition last year, the College has again achieved excellent results. Of the 15 Epsom College in Malaysia's entries into the 2017 Competition, 5 students achieved outstanding results. Andy Zhuang in Year 11 was awarded a first prize, one of only 285 first prizes awarded worldwide from over 12,000 entries; Alea Yang Ni, in Year 10 was awarded a second prize, one of 398 second Prizes; and Chin Rong Tor in Y10, Xin Yi Ngai in Y9 and Zhiyin Wong in Y8 were each awarded third prizes, one of 918 from a pool over 12,000 entries. In addition to these high-profile success by students, Chinese Language teaching staff; Ms Yuanzhen Peng and Mrs Wen Li Leighton also received Teacher’s Awards for ‘Teaching Excellence’ due to the result of their student’s achievements. The International Annual Essay Competition is a prestigious annual event open to overseas Chinese young people worldwide. The event was organised by the International Chinese Language Council and sponsored by the Chinese International Cultural Exchange Foundation in Beijing, China.
