KUALA LUMPUR, 12 November 2025 – Garden International School (GIS) has officially launched its new RM100 million Sports Complex. This five-level, 200,000-square-foot facility is a testament to Taylor’s Schools' philosophy of raising relevant, responsible and resilient learners.

Equipped with world-class amenities that include an Olympic-size swimming pool, two full-length indoor basketball courts, two tennis courts, and a fully equipped gym and fitness suite, the new GIS Sports Complex is a direct response to the rising performance of GIS students, many of whom are already representing their states and the nation in competitive sports.

The launch was officiated by YB Puan Hannah Yeoh, Member of Parliament for Segambut, and attended by Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan, Group Executive Chairman of Taylor’s Education Group, together with Mr BK Gan, President and CEO of Taylor’s Schools; Ms Angelina Tee, Chief Operating Officer of Taylor’s Schools; Mr Peter J. Derby-Crook, MBE, Principal of Garden International School; and members of the senior leadership and staff across the Taylor’s network.

“This Sports Complex and underground car park have been eight years in the making, a project designed to meet the needs of both our students and the wider community,” said Mr BK Gan, President and CEO of Taylor’s Schools. “For our students, it provides world-class facilities to help them push their limits, build resilience, and grow together as teammates.”

He added, “This development also addresses long-standing traffic challenges, introducing an underground car park with improved access points to Jalan Kiara 3 and 5, while offering safer, more comfortable drop-off areas for parents and students.”

“This project reflects our entrepreneurial mindset in action; identifying a need, exploring innovative options, and delivering a solution that benefits everyone. It’s the same problem-solving spirit we aim to instil in our students.”

The Sports Complex is part of Phase 1 of GIS’s campus transformation, which began with a new basement car park, an alfresco dining area and a FIFA-standard youth football field. GIS plans to invest another RM85 million for the upcoming Performing Arts Centre in Phase 2 to add greater depth to the school’s already comprehensive learning environment.

True to GIS’s values, the facility also serves the broader community. The school has opened its swimming pool and sports hall to the public to support the local neighbourhood’s active lifestyle goals and contribute towards growing sports at a grassroots level. While privately funded, GIS’s investment complements the government’s vision to position sports as a catalyst for national growth, underscored by the RM580 million allocation in Budget 2026.

Despite these major infrastructure investments, GIS remains committed to maintaining its enrolment size.

“We are not increasing student capacity,” Mr Gan added. “This isn’t about expansion, it’s about enhancement. We’re investing in quality, not quantity, to ensure every student continues to receive the best possible journey in education.”

As GIS approaches its 75th anniversary in 2026, the launch of the Sports Complex encapsulates Mr Gan’s enduring vision of intentional, values-driven education, which prioritises long-term investment in students. This milestone also sets a strong foundation for the next chapter under the incoming President of Taylor’s Schools, Angelina Tee, who will become the first female President of a regional K–12 education group in Southeast Asia. This is a historic step that reflects the Group’s continued commitment to progressive leadership and purposeful growth.
