The Winners of 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019!

The 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019 was held in conjunction with the 13th Private & International School Fair in Kuala Lumpur on 22 & 23 June 2019 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.

The competition for Category A (11 - 12 years old) was held on 22 June while Category B (13 - 14 years old) was held on 23 June.

All the participants performed original poems conveying the theme, ‘People Who Inspire Me.’

Twenty national, international and private school students submitted entries for the 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019.

Category A Participants

Prior to the competition, 16 poems and 14 poems were shortlisted for Category A and B respectively by Dr Elaine Morais, Editor of Education Destination Malaysia: Guide to International & Private Schools and former Professor of the English Department from the Faculty of Languages & Linguistics at University of Malaya.

Students from a number of national and private schools were shortlisted to compete in the competition. These students were from Chong Hwa Independent High School, Pin Hwa High School, Tsun Jin High School, SK (1) Jalan Batu Tiga Klang, SJKC Kuen Cheng 2, Sekolah Kebangsaan (P) Jalan Batu, Sekolah Tenby Ipoh, SK Taman Megah and SMK Convent Bukit Nanas.

Category B Participants

The shortlisted international school students were from Cempaka International School, HELP International School, Idrissi International School, MITstem International School, Straits International School, Sunway International School and Westlake International School.

They competed to win attractive cash prizes worth RM4,500! In addition, participants stood a chance to win exciting prizes from Sunway Lagoon Malaysia and Malaysian Book Promotions, sponsors of the 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019.

The competition was judged by Emily Thomas, spoken word poet and drama & speech educator at Poetry Cafe KL; Jamal Raslan, an established spoken word poet in Kuala Lumpur; and Mrs Ann Khoo, educator and former school principal in Kuala Lumpur.

The judges were impressed by all the performances and commended the level of maturity and courage of the participants.

Category A Winners

Winner: Tee Kai Marn (HELP International School)

1st Runner-up: Fatima Al-Zahraa (Idrissi International School)

2nd Runner-up: Wong Shay-Nie (SJKC Kuen Cheng 2, KL)
