Wesley Methodist School has taken a step to future-proof their students by implementing Money & Me: Youth Financial Empowerment Programme, a national initiative by The Edge Education Foundation that empowers secondary school students with essential financial literacy and life skills.
The programme, currently running in both Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (Private)(WMSKLP) and Wesley Methodist School Bandar Seri Coalfields (Private) (WMSBSCP), introduces students to vital topics such as saving, budgeting, banking, and entrepreneurship through hands-on activities, simulations, and project-based learning.
At WMSKLP, the Money & Me programme brought financial literacy to life for the Form 4 students. Through guided lessons and hands-on experience, students developed and pitched their own small business proposals in groups, transforming classroom theory into real-world application.

Led by teachers Ms. Sashitra Anandasekar (Economics) and Ms. Sharathi Nadarajan (Additional Mathematics), the programme saw students grow remarkably in critical thinking, budgeting skills, and entrepreneurial mindset.
“We saw our students becoming more analytical and confident in discussing money matters,” shared Ms. Sashitra. “Their ability to apply budgeting principles and pitch feasible business ideas was truly impressive.”
This initiative not only nurtured financial awareness but also empowered students to see themselves as future innovators and responsible stewards of money.

Over at WMSBSCP, the programme was integrated into the Interact Club’s weekly sessions with Forms 1–5 students. Students engaged in activities like a grocery budgeting simulation and planning a fundraising booth for Open Day, directly applying what they learned to real-life scenarios.

“Students embraced the lessons wholeheartedly. Their ability to connect theory with practice was encouraging,” said Dr Bryan Robson, programme coordinator at WMSBSCP.

With growing national concerns over youth debt and low financial preparedness, Money & Me represents a purposeful initiative, and Wesley Methodist School is grateful to be part of this effort to nurture financially responsible youth.
