As the new year begins we come upon a time of taking stock of our many blessings and look around to see how we can come together to help those who are in need. In this regard POWIIS family has been leading by example by starting a tradition 3 years back of giving to the needy group at the end of every year. In 2013 the POWIIS family came together and collected funds to help with the rehabilitation of the Philippines Haiyan typhoon victims. In 2014 POWIIS identified a needy group closer to home which allowed us to personally pack and deliver gift hampers stocked with basic essentials (rice, cooking oil, flour, sugar etc) to 50 families of the LifeBridge Learning Centre (a school for refugee children).

In the end of the year 2015 the POWIIS family led by Anu Jacob (chairperson of the Parent Teacher Association) and the POWIIS prefects brought it even closer to home by helping the needy members of the local community of Balik Pulau where POWIIS is located. With the help of Encik Halil Sabri Bin Hamid the coordinating officer of the State Legislative Assembly, we were able to identify 100 needy children in and around Balik Pulau who would benefit school essentials like a set of school uniform, shoes , socks, a school bag and a pencil box with essential stationery which would allow these children to start the new school year in January with a smile and a confidence that they were as well prepared as their school mates. This was a great success because of all at POWIIS supported it so well, students, staff and parents.

The school later arranged a ceremony on the 11th of December to distribute the school bags along with the pencil box with stationery. They were distributed by the school prefects and the students from the student council. The Principal Mr Simon Leese along with the rest of the staff and the students were present during the ceremony. Also attending the ceremony were Encik Halil Sabri Bin Hamid and Tuan Haji Mohd Tuah Ismail both coordinating officers of the State Legislative Assembly.
