KTJ Wins Big @ Taekwondo State Championships

Sisters Thrishannya (Form 2) and Yoshanya (Primary 4) from Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar both recently won gold medals in their events at the Taekwondo State Championships. Both girls represented KTJ at the event and they competed against 96 other schools from Negeri Sembilan.

When did Thrishannya and Yoshanya take up tTekwondo?

Thrishannnya started training since she was 5 years old and her first tournament was when she was 6 years old (2012). Youshanya started training since she was 5 years old and her first tournament was when she was 6 years old (2015).

 

How many days a week do they train?

Main training with the coach (JAGOH Takewando Academy, under the guidance of Master Selvamuthu and Master Thilagawaty) is twice a week, every Saturday 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm & Wednesday 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. They do training on their own at home for 30 minutes every day (whenever possible). Extra training with the coach when they have a tournament approaching. 

 

What is their biggest achievement in taekwondo so far? 

Thrishannya won a Gold medal at the recent 16 WATA INTERNATIONAL TAKEWANDO CHAMPIONSHIP - JAPAN  - 2018. Yoshanya won a gold medal at the MBW Junior Takewando Championship in 2016.

 

Do they have any upcoming competitions?

Thrishannya will be competing in the 12th KOKO KRUNCH JUNIOR TAKEWANDO CHAMPIONSHIP GRAND FINAL after qualifying by winning the Bronze Medal in the Central Zone in March 2018.  

 

What is their next taekwondo goal?

Both Thrishannya & Yoshanya are hoping to continue to participate in many more tournaments locally and also at international level. They hope that one day be they can represent the state in SUKMA and eventually represent their country.
