Marlborough College Malaysia Elects Pupil Leaders

Malaysia’s prestigious British boarding school, Marlborough College Malaysia, has elected the first group of ten prefects from its Lower Sixth cohort. The 17-year-old pupils are studying for the IB Diploma, a global qualification that develops intellectual ability, cultural knowledge and community leadership.

These young people were chosen for their embodiment of the traits that at Marlborough values. The College aims to develop global citizens rooted by the core values of compassion, companionship and conversation - Marlborough’s educational philosophy.

Marlborough College Malaysia, located in the Iskandar area of Johor, is a genuine expansion of its parent school in Wiltshire, 100 miles west of London. Marlborough UK’s first prefect was a young man named James Allen who joined the College in its opening year of 1843. He worked for much of his life as an expatriate in Australia holding a number of senior roles in Perth, Western Australia. The Senior Prefect from this group was also an expatriate for a time, in India, and a graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge.

The prefects at Marlborough Malaysia are well positioned to achieve success, having the opportunity to be educated at one of the top schools in Asia. The College is significant in the region in its balanced education for children from the age of 4 to 18. It offers a very large range of sports, activities, and academic options, and requires pupils to be involved in a wide spread of pursuits. A boarding and day school, it speaks strongly of tradition and high standards, with its exceptional facilities, successful teaching team, and diverse community.

A Head Boy and Head Girl will be chosen in the coming months for this cohort’s final year at school, the Upper Sixth, which starts in September 2015. It will be fascinating to see what they, and the other young leaders at this British school in Malaysia, will achieve during their lifetime.
