Marlborough Miles 2015
In celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty the Sultan of Johor, Marlborough College Malaysia, through its Outreach program, held its annual Marlborough Miles event on 23rd March 2015, in aid of the Palliative Care Association of Johor, a charity chosen by HRH Raja Zarith.
Marlborough Miles is a non-competitive, charitable event which fundraises through sponsorship and donations, involving all members of the College community: pupils, parents, siblings and staff, who aim to complete as many Marlborough Miles as possible within the event time. The event is named after the road within the College campus, where one lap measures just under one mile. Each completed lap of the College is added to the overall number of miles that the College community has covered, with the aim of reaching the nominated goal.
Each year the College sets a target distance to aim for; in 2013, a total of 2,013 miles were completed; in 2014 it was 6,853 miles: the distance from Marlborough College Malaysia to Marlborough College UK. This year, the target was 7,926 miles, which is the distance through the centre of the globe, from Marlborough College Malaysia to Ecuador, the exact point on the opposite side of the world.
The College community started the event at 8.45am with great enthusiasm and energy, clocking up the miles steadily until the target was achieved at 12.27pm, just in time for a celebratory Malaysian feast that brought the day to a close. Thank you to all who took part for their triumphant efforts.
The Outreach program at MCM is an integral part of the Marlborough experience where service to the community is encouraged for all pupils. In addition to Outreach, Marlborough College Malaysia has a Community, Action and Service (CAS) group that pupils taking the IB Diploma run projects for, these community service hours contribute to their course, as well as benefiting charitable organizations within Johor such as Jaro, Care Haven Orphanage and SK Sungai Melayu.
